Links

Here I have listed some links that were invaluable in building this site and to my photography in general.

The Essential Guide to CSS and HTML Web Design - by Craig Grannel. This was the book that started me off on web design. I would definitely recommend it.

w3schools - a great resource to start you off on HTML and a multitude of other languages.

Vertical Centering With CSS - such a simple thing I thought to vertically align the page so that it stays central when you resize the window! This article by Douglas Heriot is what saved me!

Textmate - the missing editor for the Mac, really good text editor, highly recommended.

CSSEdit - superb peace of software, a great way to edit CSS.

Miruku 3D Design and Animation - the web page of the very talented Dan Jutson, who was of invaluable assistance in some of the intricacies of designing a logo.

Louise Vissen Photography A very talented young lady who has helped push me out of my comfort zone and into the studio!

David Clapp Photography I have to mention this chap. Apart from his rather stunning photography, he also gave an inspiring presentation in 2009 that propelled me into this artistic world of photography. Still want your trousers back David? ;-)

About this site

Prior to building this site I had used two other pre-built templates. The first was by Clickpic which was good but I found the user interface and customisation menu too cluttered and difficult to use. I then moved on to Photium and found their site excellent, extremely easy to upload photographs and customise, with very good customer support.

So why go to the trouble of building my own? I loved the design of so many other sites and felt restricted with what I had. I definitely couldn't afford to pay someone to do it, so rolled my virtual sleeves up and got stuck into HTML. I had no previous experience whatsoever but found it surprisingly enjoyable, it's like putting together a giant jigsaw and equally frustrating when you can't find that missing piece (of code in this case).

I decided from the beginning that I wanted to learn the 'long hand method' of building a website and it has been built entirely using Textmate and CSSEdit for the Mac, I would highly recommend both.

So what next? I'm now trying to get my head around Javascript to give the site a bit more interest and I'm still not entirely convinced on colours and fonts etc so expect some changes!

About My Photography

Not a lot to say here really! Photographs speak for themselves, what does it matter what camera or lens I used, or how I edit them? You either like them or you don't, but hopefully you do!

That said, if anyone is genuinely interested please get in touch, I'm only too happy to talk photography!
